Chromatography Hypersil BDS C18 HPLC column 5um
Although conventional packed columns have excellent selectivity and longer column lifetimes, better peak asymmetry can be obtained when the samples are acidic, neutral and weakly basic. However, when analyzing strongly basic compounds, the peak shape of the sample becomes poor and tailing is serious, which leads to a decrease in the accuracy of quantitative analysis. This phenomenon is caused by residual silica-hydroxyl groups in the stationary phase. Although many manufacturers have performed a secondary reaction on the surface of silica gel in order to reduce the effect of residual silanol groups, the so-called "tail sealing", they often cannot completely eliminate residual silanol groups. Thermo's Hypersil BDS (Alkali Deactivated Silica) range limits silanol residues and can be used to create truly homogeneous reversed-phase packings, especially for basic compounds using modern derivatization reaction techniques
