  Pico Controllers

The Pico™ family of nano-PLCs is our smallest, most economical controller offering, performing simple logic, timing, counting, and real-time clock operations. Splitting the difference between a timing relay and a low-end PLC, the Pico controller is ideal for relay replacement applications, simple control applications such as building and parking lot lighting, and applications in which cost is a primary design issue.

  Product Design

Pico controllers can be either DIN-rail or panel mounted, or mounted directly on your machine. They offer the following control capabilities:

• 8 or 12 inputs (up to 24 inputs with I/O Expansion Block).
• 4, 6, or 8 outputs (up to 16 outputs with I/O Expansion Block).
• 4 soft inputs controlled by the available on-board keypad.
• 16 internal bits for intermediate data storage.
• 16 timers.
• 16 counters (includes 2 frequency counters and 2 high-speed counters).
• 8 real-time clock instructions.
• 16 analog compare instructions (12V DC, 24V DC, or 24V AC units only).
• 16 text display screens.

Depending on which Pico controller you use, expansion I/O modules can provide up to 40 I/O points.

Programming

Using the Keypad

Pico controllers, with on-board keypad and LCD display, can be programmed entirely from the front keypad. Models without the keypad and LCD display are programmed by using PicoSoft programming software or by installing a pre-programmed memory module.

Pico controllers can contain 128 program rungs. Each rung may contain three input instructions and one output instruction. The instruction set includes:

• Input Instructions—examine-on and examine-off.
• Output Instructions—output enable (OTE), set (latch), reset (unlatch), and flip-flop (alternating on/off).
• Timer Instructions—on-delay, off-delay, single pulse, flashing.
• Counter Instructions—count up, count down.
• Real-time Clock Instructions—turn on or off based on time-of-day and day-of-week (models with real-time-clock only).
• Analog Compare Instructions—greater than or less than a setpoint or each other (12V DC, 24V DC, or 24V AC units only).
• Text Display Instructions—display messages, timers, counters, etc. on the LCD display.

Using PicoSoft Programming Software

PicoSoft programming software (1760-PICOSOFT) lets you create, edit, store, upload, download, and test programs for Pico controllers. This software:

• Provides an easy-to-use programming interface.
• Lets you connect a Pico controller to your PC using the PC-to-Pico interface cable (1760-CBL-PM02).

With a Pico controller connected to your PC, you can:

• Compare a program in your PC with the program installed on the Pico controller.
• View the status of inputs and outputs in your program for the Pico controller.
• Test your program with the Pico controller.

Pico Expansion I/O Modules

Pico Expansion I/O modules connect to the side of the controller and can be used with Pico or PicoGFX controllers. Expansion I/O modules include an expansion module connector. Replacement connectors can be ordered separately.

DeviceNet Communications Module

The Pico DeviceNet module lets you connect a Pico controller as a slave device on the DeviceNet network. It connects to the Pico controller like an expansion I/O module. It can be used with the Pico 18- and 20- point controllers and the PicoGFX controller. 24V DC power must be provided to the device.

Memory Module

Use a memory module to backup your program and data.

Remote Processor

The remote processor is used for terminal mode operation of Pico controllers and I/O modules. Use the remote mounting processor with Pico controllers, Pico expansion I/O, and PicoGFX controllers. Perform text messaging and make data adjustments using the display/keypad unit.

Power Supply

The 24V DC power supply is sized to provide enough power for any standard Pico or PicoGFX system. Line power can be 100 to 240V AC or 85 to 375V DC.

PC-to-Pico Interface Cable

The PC-to-Pico interface cable connects a Pico controller to your PC for use with PicoSoft programming software.
