High quality automotive hub sputtering vacuum coating machine
What is magnetron sputtering vacuum coating?
- One form of PVD coating technology is magnetron sputtering. The vacuum chamber of the PVD coating machine is filled with an inert gas, such as argon. By applying a high voltage, a glow discharge is generated, causing ions to be accelerated from the target to the target surface. Often additional gases are used, such as nitrogen or acetylene, which react with the ejected material (reactive sputtering).
- Magnetron sputtering uses a magnetic field to increase the plasma density in front of the target. Resulting in increased efficiency, higher sputtering rates and improved ion bombardment during coating growth. These coatings are mainly used in tribological and decorative applications.
How is magnetron sputtering vacuum metallization done?
The main process includes
- Primer for parts
- The parts are racked, the racks are placed into the chamber, and the chamber is then sealed.
- Argon gas is introduced into the chamber in a continuous flow.
- The current creates an active argon plasma field in front of the cathode. (The cathode is a component that contains a magnet and provides a mount for the target—a slab of material that will be deposited.)
- The magnet is located behind the target.
- Positively charged (ionized) argon atoms are accelerated by a magnetic field (generated by a magnet located behind the target).
- Positively charged (ionized) argon atoms are accelerated by a magnetic field (generated by a magnet inside the cathode).
- Positive atoms are attracted to the negatively charged cathode that contains the target.
- The target is bombarded with each ion particle, which individually destroys atoms of the target material on each collision (target continuous hit).
- Continuous (directed) sputtering that releases target atoms to be "shot" onto the part surface
- The base coat material/paint provides a smooth surface for the atoms to deposit together and build up on the part.
- This part is the top coat
