Compared to traditional spherical lenses, Fresnel lenses achieve the same optical effect by dividing the lens into a series of concentric circles with a theoretically infinite number of lines (i.e., Fresnel zones), while saving material usage
For these lines, the overall thickness of the lens is reduced; an ordinary Fresnel convex lens is actually a continuous surface truncated into a section with discontinuous curvature, which looks like a line around a circle because the surface is finely divided . A Fresnel lens can actually be thought of as a series of prisms arranged in a ring, where the corners are sharper and the center of the convex surface is smoother.
