Working principle of lime vertical/shaft kiln:

Large vertical lime kilns with a daily output of over 1,000 tons are possible, very energy efficient and easy to operate. Minimal maintenance is required as the limestone is brought to the top and into the kiln. The limestone is then burned (calcined) for a specified number of hours to produce powdered lime. The lime is then discharged from the bottom of the shaft kiln.

Pumping material from the bottom of the kiln adjusts the gravity flow of the limestone and controls the calcination residence time in the kiln. A clinker grinder grinds the remaining limestone blocks into powder. The lime is then transported via truck trailer or train. There is now a huge demand for white cement in the construction industry.
